Jazz Vocal Series

The Jazz WaHi Vocal Series presents some of New York City’s finest jazz singers in an intimate club setting, followed by a Vocal Jam! The series happens on the first Monday of every month.

The Vocal Series was created in 2016 with the addition of the Vocal Jam in 2022. During this time it has evolved into a vibrant gathering of singers and Washington Heights residents creating a space for jazz singers and lovers of jazz vocal music.

Le Cheile is a listening room that seats 40 people. Food and drinks served. Doors open at 7 pm. Just a hop, skip, and jump from the A train. One set only at 7:30. Vocal Jazz Jam to follow. Singers must attend the featured set to be invited to sing at the Jazz Jam.

Please note: if the first Monday falls on a holiday, schedules may change.

As the Music Plays: The Val Hawk Songbook

Alexis Cole, bassist Yoshi Waki, and pianist Josh Richman present an intimate exploration of the music of composer Val Hawk, bringing her distinctive songbook into sharp focus through the openness and spontaneity of the trio format.

The concert shines a light on a body of work deserving wider recognition, with performances that honor the character of Hawk’s songs while allowing space for improvisation, interaction, and fresh interpretation.

The performance is part of As the Music Plays: The Val Hawk Songbook, a larger project devoted to documenting, performing, recording, and sharing Hawk’s music with new audiences.
